In 1272 it is mentioned among the manors held by John Fitzalan, Earl of Arundel, at his death, one-third belonging to his mother in dower; and it was among the property remaining in the king's hands during the minority of the heir.

  3. Hace 2 días · 1610–32. Thomas, 14th Earl of Arundel (1586–1646), was 24 years old when he became the owner of this house in Highgate. He was the only son of Philip Howard, Earl of Arundel, by his wife, Anne, coheiress of Dacre and Gillesland, and was born at Finchingfield in Essex on 7th July, 1586.

Hace 5 días · In November 1326 Edmund, Earl of Arundel, perished on the scaffold at Hereford and his body was buried in the Franciscan church there, but since, as patron of Haughmond, he had bequeathed his body to the abbey, the abbot and convent vehemently resisted his burial in another place; after repeated appeals to Queen Isabella and her son Edward they finally secured the body for reburial at Haughmond.

(fn. 191) The manor was restored in 1343 to Edmund's son Richard, earl of Arundel (d. 1376), (fn. 192) on the execution and attainder of whose son Richard, earl of Arundel, in 1397 it was granted to Sir Henry Green.

Hace 5 días · Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel and Surrey, was appointed Earl Marshal on 29 August 1621 and set about reforming the court.One of the first challenges he faced was a denial of its authority by Ralph Brooke, York Herald, on the grounds that the Earl Marshal had no jurisdiction in the absence of a Lord High Constable.

(fn. 143) After his execution in that year it was granted, like Heene Falconer manor near Worthing, to John Holand, duke of Exeter (beheaded 1400), (fn. 144) and was presumably afterwards restored like Heene Falconer to Richard's son Thomas, earl of Arundel (d. 1415), who had it in 1406.
