Hace 5 días · The 2 hides held by Suarting and Herding in 1086 escheated later to the Crown, and were granted some time during the 12th century to the de Bohuns, later Earls of Hereford and Essex. As appears from an inquisition of 1262–3, Humphrey de Bohun, whose death took place in 1183, (fn. 8) granted it to his sister Maud on her marriage with Henry Doyley.
Hace 4 días · Afterwards it was evidently agreed that the Spigurnels should hold the Bobbingworth tenements of the Merks, for in 1311- 12 William son and heir of Ralph de Merk granted the overlordship of these tenements to Humphrey, Earl of Hereford and Essex (d. 1322) who in 1312-13 granted it in fee tail to his youngest son William de Bohun, later Earl of Northampton.

The mesne tenancy passed with Marks Tey to the Merk family and their successors, being held in 1286 by Andrew de Merk, in 1319 by the heirs of Thomas Merk, in 1358 by Robert Tey, and in 1374 in dower by Joan, widow of Humphrey de Bohun, earl of Hereford.
