Until 1931 this parish formed the centre of a detached portion of the county of Warwick surrounded on the north and east by Worcestershire and on the west by Gloucestershire. In that year, however, the intervening Worcestershire parishes were annexed to Warwickshire.
Hace 4 días · The parish of Great Missenden has an area of 5,819 acres. It attains an elevation of considerably over 600 ft. along the centre of the parish, to which an offshoot of the Chiltern Hills penetrates; the highest point, just north of Springfield Farm, being a little over 650 ft.

He gave £1,000 for the rebuilding of St. Mary's Aldermary Church, where he was afterwards buried, but 'his bones were unkindly cast up' (Stow, i., 253). Two later Lord Mayors, Sir William Laxton (1544–5) and Sir Thomas Lodge (1562–3) were buried in his vault. 1504.

(fn. 77) After 1850 there was a general recovery in the industry, and for a time in the second half of the century there were cloth mills operating at Bratton, Westbury Leigh, and Hawkeridge.
