Adolf Friedrich IV., Herzog zu Mecklenburg [-Strelitz] (* 5. Mai 1738 in Mirow ; † 2. Juni 1794 in Neustrelitz ), im Volksmund in Anlehnung an Fritz Reuter auch heute noch Dörchläuchting genannt, war 1752/53–1794 regierender Herzog zu Mecklenburg im Landesteil Mecklenburg-Strelitz .

After spending 43 years as heir apparent, which makes him the second longest serving heir in Mecklenburg-Strelitz history, Adolf Friedrich succeeded his father on 30 May 1904 when he was aged 55.

Adolphe-Frédéric VI est le troisième enfant et l'aîné des deux fils du grand-duc Adolphe-Frédéric V de Mecklembourg-Strelitz et de son épouse Élisabeth d'Anhalt. Il fait ses études secondaires à Dresde, puis étudie la jurisprudence à Munich avant d'entrer dans l' armée prussienne où il atteint le grade de major-général .
During the last years of his reign Adolf Friedrich was granted the rank of General in the Hanoverian Army by his brother in law King George III in 1788. Adolf Friedrich IV died in Neustrelitz on 2 June 1794 a month after celebrating his 56th birthday. He was buried in the family crypt in Mirow. His brother Duke Carl succeeded him.
