Comprising of the iconic buildings of Old College (Designed by John Sanders and built c. 1808) New College (Designed by Harry Bell Measures c. 1908) and Victory College (Designed by Gollins, Melvin, Ward & Partners c. 1970) The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is set in a 600-acre estate that straddles the Surrey/Berkshire border.
The Sandhurst Collection also preserves and manages the archives of the academy. The archives contain records of the academy and its predecessors; the Royal Military College Sandhurst 1799-1939 and the Royal Military Academy Woolwich 1741-1939. It also maintains the archive of the current academy which was established in 1947.
The notable Alumni of the Royal Military College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst are very numerous. In particular, there are so many generals and Victoria Cross holders from the former Royal Military College, Sandhurst, that a full list would be immense. This list contains a number of students who did not complete the course.
Although the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is a closed establishment, hundreds of visitors are welcomed each year on historical tours organised by the Sandhurst Trust. Tours cover the main prestige rooms of Old College, including the Indian Army Memorial Room, Wellington Room, History Room and the Old College Grand Entrance.
Rehearsals are taking place on Old College Square at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, in the lead up to Soveriegn's Parade on the 12 April. Toward the end of the 19th century, it became apparent that the first chapel was inadequate in many respects and, as there was no way of enlarging it, a new site and building had to be found. It was decided that the ground behind Old College was to be the site of the new chapel.
