24 de feb. de 2023 · Lucian Freud. (1922-2011), Artist. Sitter in 66 portraits. Artist of 6 portraits. Grandson of Sigmund Freud, he was born in Berlin and moved to England aged ten in 1933. He studied at the Central School of Art and the East Anglian School of Painting (1939-42) under Cedric Morris. His first solo exhibition was at the Lefevre gallery, London in 1944.

This new, authoritative survey of Freud’s portraits and figure paintings explores his work across seven decades, from the early 1940s to his death in 2011. The book features over 130 paintings, drawings and etchings selected in close collaboration with the artist.
Lucian Freud stated that “my idea of portraiture came from dissatisfaction with portraits that resembled people. I would wish my portraits to be of people, not like them.” Such a confession denotes a certain amount of philosophical anguish as it presupposes that the artist, when painting somebody, is to an extent condemning them.
