David Stewart was born on the 24th of October 1378, the eldest son of John Stewart, Earl of Carrick, later King Robert, 3rd of Scotland and Annabella Drummond, his Queen Consort, and was heir to the throne of Scotland. [1] [2] He was created Earl of Carrick in 1390, and the first Duke of Rothesay and Earl of Atholl in 1398.
