Edward (‘Ned’) Burne-Jones and William Morris became two of De Morgan’s particularly close friends and collaborators.
William De Morgan was the most exciting and innovative potter of his day. He is best remembered for his animal and floral designs and glittering lustreware. Born in 1839 in London, De Morgan grew up with 6 siblings. He went to school University College School where his father taught mathematics. In 1859, he enrolled at the Royal Academy Schools.

William De Morgan (1839-1914) was the most important ceramic artist of the Arts and Crafts Movement. He was born on 16th November 1839 into an intellectual family of French Huguenot descent. William's father, Augustus De Morgan, was the first Professor of Mathematics at the newly founded University College in London and he is an important figure in the history of the subject.
