The Grand Terrace was controlled by the gangster Al Capone, so Hines became Capone’s “Mr Piano Man”. The Grand Terrace upright piano was soon replaced by a white $3,000 Bechstein grand.

12 de feb. de 2015 · Earl Kenneth “Fatha” Hines was born on December 28, 1903, in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hines. His mother died when he was only three-years-old. Hines was raised by his father and stepmother, Mary. His father worked as a foreman at the coal docks, played the cornet, and led the Eureka Brass Band.
Earl Hines was born Dec. 28, 1903 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania and grew up in Pittsburgh. His father played trumpet, his stepmother was an organist, and a brother also played piano.
