Mientras Liszt se estaba recuperando, su padre cayó enfermo de tifus y falleció el 28 de agosto de ese mismo año. Fue enterrado en Boulogne y Franz nunca visitó su tumba.

The young Franz attracted attention from an early age, and was soon sent to study, aged 9, in Vienna with Carl Czerny, himself a student of Beethoven and Hummel.
