Intro. Alexios Komnenos must have known he was a dead man. He had been sent by the emperor to kill the usurper Melissenos. Alexios would not have hesitated to go to battle, but the usurper was married to Alexios' own sister. Rather than kill a member of his family, he chose to disobey the emperor. Now, he was summoned to the imperial court.
