Biography. Charles Beauclerk was born 6 April 1696, the eldest son and heir of Charles Beauclerk, 1st Duke of St Albans, and his wife Lady Diana de Vere. He was the grandson of Charles II, King of England, Scotland and Ireland, and his mistress Nell (Eleanor) Gwyn or Gwynne. Succeeded his father as 2nd Duke of St Albans.
