24 de may. de 2024 · When David II died in 1371, the throne passed to his nephew, Robert Stewart, 7th High Steward. Robert – the son of Walter Stewart and Robert the Bruce’s daughter Marjorie Bruce – was the first monarch of the Stewart dynasty. Now a royal castle, Rothesay was given a makeover in the later 1400s.
9 de jul. de 2023 · Marjorie was born at a time of great upheaval for Scotland; Edward I was claiming overlordship of the country, and the right to choose its next king. John Balliol was picked as king, only for Edward to humiliate and dethrone him a short time later. Marjorie’s father, Robert the Bruce, was one of the chief claimants of the Scots crown.

The only child of Robert I's first marriage, and named after her grandmother who had brought the earldom of Carrick into the Bruce family, Marjorie's surrender as a hostage had been a condition of her father's submission in August 1297, though he complied in neither.
10 de jul. de 2015 · Going into premature labour, Marjorie was taken to the Abbey, where she was delivered of a son, Robert, on 2nd March 1316. It is possible that Robert was delivered by caesarean as his mother was close to death. Marjorie survived the birth by just a few hours and died the same day. Poor little Marjorie Bruce was dead at the tender age of 19 ...
Marjorie Bruce. Marjorie Bruce or Marjorie de Brus (c. 1296 – 1316 or 1317) was the eldest daughter of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, and the only child born of his first marriage with Isabella of Mar. Bruce, Marjorie. Bruce, Marjorie (d. 1316). Eldest daughter of King Robert I, and joint founder of the royal house of Stewart (Stuart). Born before 1297, she was the only child of her father's first wife Isabel, daughter of Donald, earl of Mar. Her short life was blighted by personal misfortune.
According to legend, Marjorie's parents had been very much in love, and Robert the Bruce did not remarry until 1302 (six years after his first wife's death), to a courtier named Elizabeth de Burgh. On 27 March 1306, her father was crowned King of Scots at Scone, Perthshire, and Marjorie, then 10 years old, became a Princess of Scotland.
