Meiningen Company, experimental acting group begun in 1866 and directed by George II, duke of Saxe-Meiningen, and his morganatic wife, the actress Ellen Franz. It was one of the first companies in which the importance of the director was stressed.

Ellen Franz kam 1839 in Naumburg zur Welt, wuchs in Berlin auf und bekam durch Hans von Bülow Klavierunterricht. Freundschaftliche Verbindungen unterhielt sie zu Cosima Wagner (geborenen Liszt, verheiratete von Bülow).
In 2015, the band received international recognition when banjo player, Ellen Petersen, competed in the singing reality TV show, American Idol, placing in the top 48. In 2017, Emmett Franz joined the band as their dobro player. In 2018 the band placed 4th in the International Bluegrass Music Competition in Nashville.
