Dans l'intervalle, s'il figure principalement au générique de films américains - dont de nombreux westerns -, il participe aussi à des productions en langue espagnole (qu'il pratique du fait de ses origines) et, à la fin des années 1960 , tourne en Italie quelques westerns spaghetti .

Ses parents ont émigré aux Etats-Unis après la prise de leur ville par Pancho Villa. Alors qu’il souhaitait devenir toréador comme son grand père, il s’intéresse au cinéma et sera acteur.

Gilbert Roland was a Mexican-born American film actor. He was born Luis Antonio Dámaso de Alonso in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico and originally intended to become a bullfighter like his father. When the family moved to the United States, however, he became interested in acting when he was picked at random for a role as an extra.
