Satoshi nació el 28 de Agosto de 1965 en Machida, un suburbio del oeste de Tokio. El lugar por aquel entonces todavía tenía un paisaje rural: Había arrozales y algo de selva. Ahí, Tajiri empezó desde pequeño a coleccionar insectos. Era considerado una persona extraña y nadie esperaba que llegara tan lejos.
