Dudley Pound. Sir Alfred Dudley Pickman Rogers Pound GCB OM GCVO (* 29. August 1877 auf der Isle of Wight, England; † 21. Oktober 1943) war ein britischer Flottenadmiral, der zuletzt Erster Seelord der Royal Navy war.
Early Life & Career. In the examination for cadetships in the Royal Navy held on 25 November, 1890, Pound placed first out of fifty-seven successful candidates, with 1,846 marks. [1] On 16 October, 1897, Pound was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, dated 29 August, 1896. [2] On 29 August, 1898, Pound was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
Dudley Pound served for longer on the Chiefs of Staff Committee in wartime than any other serviceman in either of the two World Wars. He was the professional head of the Royal Navy from July 1939 until his resignation, shortly before his death, in August 1943.
