After being bedridden for a long period of time, King Oscar I died at the Royal Palace in Stockholm on July 8, 1859, at the age of 60. An autopsy confirmed that he had a brain tumor. King Oscar I was buried in the Bernadotte Chapel at Riddarholmen Church in Stockholm.
