1. Before turning to art, Wesselmann studied psychology and served in the US Army. Tom Wesselmann was born in Cincinatti, Ohio, in 1931. His friend Jim Dine was born in the same city four years later. Fellow Pop artists Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) and R.B. Kitaj (1932-2007) also spent their formative years in the Buckeye State.
