Erdmuthe Dorothea, Countess of Zinzendorf (née Countess of Reuss-Ebersdorf; 7 November 1700 – 19 June 1756) was a German Pietist and hymn writer.
Erdmuthe Dorothea Von Reuss was born November 7, 1700 in the village of Ebersdorf, in Thuringia. [1] She was the daughter of Count Henry X of Reuss-Ebersdorf and his wife, Erdmuthe Benigna of Solms-Laubach. She enjoyed a pietistic upbringing according to the principles Philip Jacob Spener.
Aus der Zeit der Regent- und Witwenschaft Erdmuthe Benignas haben sich im Thüringer Staatsarchiv Greiz und im Unitätsarchiv Herrnhut rund 170 Briefe von ihrer Hand erhalten. Empfänger der Briefe waren Heinrich XXIV. von Reuß-Köstritz und dessen Frau Eleonore, geb. von Promnitz (1688-1776) sowie die Tochter Erdmuthe Dorothea und deren Mann.
