The Marriage of Figaro is the product of a miraculous collaboration between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte, one a precocious composer, the other an adventurer in literature. The opera premiered in Vienna on 1st May 1786.

Figaro shows that he will beat the count in his own back yard, in a Menuette-style. A normal peasant wouldn’t know about Menuetts. It makes it clear to the audience, that we’re still within the realm of comedy.
