  4. To me, Casablanca is kind of like New York City, in that it is a metropolitan center with a lot of concrete and industrial areas, but that doesn’t make it a bad place to visit. Just like New York City has plenty of great things for tourists to do, so does Casablanca. You should absolutely visit Casablanca on any trip to Morocco.

The city was used as a port by the Phoenicians and later by the Romans and was called Anfa. When the Portuguese conquered the city in 1468, they decided to call it Casablanca, meaning “white house” in Portuguese.
