Ernest Augustus (German: Ernst August; 20 November 1629 – 23 January 1698), Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, was Prince of Calenberg from 1679 until his death, and father of George I of Great Britain. He was appointed as the ninth prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire in 1692.

Ernest Augustus (born Nov. 20, 1629, Herzberg am Harz Castle, Hanover [Germany]—died Jan. 23, 1698, Herrenhausen Castle) was a duke (from 1679) and elector (from 1692) of Hanover, father of George Louis, who became George I, king of Great Britain.
19 de jul. de 1998 · Ernest Augustus was the king of Hanover, from 1837 to 1851, the fifth son of George III of England. Ernest Augustus studied at Göttingen, entered the Hanoverian army, and served as a leader of cavalry when war broke out between Great Britain and France in 1793.
Ernest Augustus (German: Ernst August; 5 June 1771 – 18 November 1851) was King of Hanover from 20 June 1837 until his death in 1851. As the fifth son of George III of the United Kingdom and Hanover, he initially seemed unlikely to become a monarch, but none of his elder brothers had a legitimate son.
In 1692, Emperor Leopold I of the House of Habsburg elevated Duke Ernest Augustus of the Brunswick-Lüneburg line of Calenberg, to the rank of prince-elector of the empire as a reward for aid given in the Nine Years' War.
