It sounds strange to hear that there was a Horseferry and Vauxhall Regatta as recently as 1840, but it is nevertheless true.

His upbringing was marked by a rigorous educational regime under the supervision of his mother, Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, and his tutor, the Earl of Bute.
