"Alexander (Ramsay). Under the description of 'dominus de Dalhousy,' he granted to the Abbey of Newbattle in 1366-67, when his grandfather (see Note below) was apparently alive, but had denuded himself of the estate, the Blindhalch on the north of the Southesk, for his soul, and that of his wife Catherine, and that of his father Alexander, 'whose body is buried in Newbattle Church.'

He was the third of the five sons of John William Maule Ramsay, 13th Earl of Dalhousie and Lady Ida Bennet, daughter of Charles Bennet, 6th Earl of Tankerville.
Alexander Ramsay var en skotsk offiser. Under Kalmarkrigen førte han de skotske leietroppene som i 1612 ble angrepet ved Kringen i Gudbrandsdalen, det såkalte Skottetoget. Ramsay, som var en av de få overlevende, fikk siden vende tilbake til Skottland.
RAMSAY, Sir ALEXANDER (d. 1402), of Dalhousie, was the son of Alexander Ramsay of Carnock, eldest son of Sir Patrick Ramsay of Dalhousie. He succeeded his grandfather in 1377, and is described as ‘Dominus de Dalwolsey, miles,’ in a charter of Robert II to Margaret, countess of Mar, on 2 Jan. 1378.
