From our foundation in 1917, the Library has always been the beating heart of the British Institute of Florence. One of the largest English language lending libraries in Europe, it is a humanities collection, with strong holdings in English and Italian literature, history, and history of art.
We offer the following exams: Cambridge English: A2 Key (KET) and Key for Schools Cambridge English: B1 Preliminary (PET) and Preliminary for Schools
Vernon Lee (the pseudonym of Violet Paget, 1856-1935) lived for many years in Florence. After her death in 1935, over 400 books from Vernon Lee's Library at the Villa 'Il Palmerino' were presented to The British Institute of Florence by her friend and executrix, Irene Cooper Willis.

This lecture will establish the scope and contents of the course with a survey of Florence's major artistic personalities and movements during the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Participants will receive access to online course materials, including reading and slide folders, along with a tour of the British Institute Library and its collections in Palazzo Lanfredini.
