Mathieu I de Montmorency, Lord of Montmorency, Lord of Écouen, Lord of Marly-le-Roi, Lord of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, Lord of Attichy, Constable of France, was born 1100 to Bouchard IV de Montmorency (1077-1130) and Agnès de Beaumont-sur-Oise (1075-1103) and died 1160 of unspecified causes. He married Alice FitzRoy (c1116-bef1141) 1126 JL . He married Adèle de Savoie (1092-1154) 1141 JL .
He was the son of Bouchard V de Montmorency, who died in Jerusalem in 1189 and Lauretta (Laurence) de Hainaut (died 1181), daughter of Baldwin IV of Hainault. His paternal grandparents were Matthieu I of Montmorency, Constable of France and Alice FitzRoy, illegitimate daughter of King Henry I of England.
En 1273, Mathieu IV de Montmorency épouse en premières noces Marie de Dreux (1265 - 1276). En 1277, il épouse en secondes noces Jeanne de Lévis (1248 - 1306), fille de Guy III de Lévis et Isabelle de Marly -Montmorency. De ce mariage sont nés : Mathieu V de Montmorency.
