Biography. Radclyffe was the son of Sir Humphrey Radclyffe and his wife Isabel Harvey. He was the grandson of Robert Radcliffe, 1st Earl of Sussex and Elizabeth Stafford, Countess of Sussex. In 1586, he was elected Member of Parliament for Petersfield. He was elected MP for Bedfordshire in 1588 and for Portsmouth in 1593.
After Elizabeth Stafford's death, Sussex married secondly, by 1 September 1532, Margaret Stanley, the only daughter of Thomas Stanley, 2nd Earl of Derby, and Anne Hastings, the daughter of Edward Hastings, 2nd Baron Hastings, by whom he had two daughters, Jane, who married Anthony Browne, 1st Viscount Montague, and Anne, who married Thomas Wharton, 2nd Baron Wharton.
Elizabeth Stafford's only paternal aunt was Margaret Dayrell who was wife to James Tuchet, 7th Baron Audley. Her maternal uncles included (among others) Anthony Woodville, 2nd Earl Rivers, Richard Woodville, 3rd Earl Rivers and Lionel Woodville, Bishop of Salisbury.
Elizabeth rimase sotto la custodia di sua madre fino al proprio matrimonio. Venne data in sposa dopo il 23 luglio 1505 a Robert Radcliffe, I conte di Sussex a cui diede tre figli: Henry Radcliffe, II conte di Sussex (1507–1542); Sir Humphrey Radcliffe (c. 1508 - 13 agosto 1566) di Elstow, Bedfordshire; George Radcliffe.
