19 de jun. de 2020 · But an incredulous navy officer won’t let Henry board the ship as Catherine’s war bride, so Catherine promptly dresses Henry in a female lieutenant’s uniform, and makes him a wig out of a horse’s tail to fool this officer into thinking Henry’s a woman. Amazingly, the plan works. The two finally board the ship.

I Was a Male War Bride is one of Hawks's later comedies, an enjoyable battle of the sexes farce in which a hapless Cary Grant suffers no end of humiliations when he tries to get the better of Ann Sheridan and US military bureaucracy. The film was inspired by a true (but hard to believe) story that appeared in the Readers' Digest.
I Was a Male War Bride was a box office success, eventually claiming the #3 film of the year for 1949. Audiences flocked to see their idol Grant dressed in drag, something the film is best remembered for, although he only appears as such for about ten minutes of screen time.
