24 de sept. de 2018 · Branwell Brontë was a complex man who undoubtedly had serious issues that contributed to his decline and death. He was an alcoholic and frequently throughout his life he was also addicted to opium (of which heroin is the modern day equivalent) and laudanum, the tincture of opium mixed with spirits that was cheap, easily available in Haworth, and terrifyingly addictive and powerful.

Patrick Branwell Brontë (1817-1848) was a painter and poet. Born as the fourth of six children and the only son of Patrick Brontë & Maria Branwell Brontë and the brother of the writers Charlotte, Emily and Anne. Branwell Brontë was rigorously tutored at home by his father, and earned praise for his poetry and translations from the classics.
Maria Branwell (15 April 1783 [1] – 15 September 1821) is best known as being the mother of British writers Emily Brontë, Anne Brontë, Charlotte Brontë and of their brother Branwell Brontë, who was a poet and painter. Maria married Patrick Brontë on 29 December 1812.
