Widmung Review by Blair Sanderson. Sergei Nakariakov's Widmung (translated as Hommage or Tribute) is a recital of the showy and tuneful transcriptions in which this Russian trumpeter specializes, following the example of his idol and the album's dedicatee, the virtuoso Timofei Dokshitser.

Had the ecstatic pleasure of hearing Sergei Live, meeting him after concert--where he was showing orch. members his 4-Valve Flugelhorn by Courtois--and demoing the pedal notes of the Cello Variations he recorded. Widmung is a decent intro to his virtuosity; more-than-that: his ability to extract, at ppp levels, every mellifluous nuance of a note.
This new album by Sergei Nakariakov was recorded in the Jesus-Christus-Kirche in Dahlem, Berlin in tribute and homage to his late mentor, the great Russian trumpeter Timofei Dokshizer. Sparkling, spectacular virtuoso works arranged for trumpet are featured here alongside lyrical works for flugelhorn, demonstrating Nakariakov's breadth of skill and expression.
