He was the couple’s second child, their firstborn, also named Charles was born and died in 1629. As the eldest surviving son of the reigning monarch, Charles was heir to the throne. Charles and his younger brother James, born 1633, were privately tutored.

He had a sister called Catherine FitzCharles who became a nun. His mother went on to marry Sir Edward Greene of Samford in Essex, but they had no children.
Catherine Pegge, born about 1635, was a long term mistress of Charles II. She had two children by him, Charles FitzCharles, 1st Earl of Plymouth, and Catherine FitzCharles. There are allegedly two portraits of Catherine Pegge by Sir Peter Lely, the whereabouts of which are unknown. The Yeldersley branch descended from Thomas Pegge.
