Virtual Visit. Welcome to your virtual visit to University College Durham, where you can experience what we offer. During the pandemic we were unable to welcome visitors to University College. Whilst we are now fully open and have a range of tours which can be booked, we have kept these resources for anyone interested in joining our community.
Durham University Chamber Choir is one of the finest university choirs in the country. With varied, interesting and technical programmes, DUCC rival professional choirs in sound. Consisting of 24 of the university’s best singers, they have recently performed concerts in Durham Cathedral’s Chapter House, Durham Castle’s Great Hall and St Oswald’s Church.
Bishop Van Mildert and the Dean and Chapter of Durham Cathedral founded the University of Durham in 1832. After Van Mildert's death in 1836, the Castle was given to the University, becoming University College in 1837. Early generations of students lived in the Castle Keep, which was reconstructed in 1840 by Anthony Salvin.

Durham Castle. Sitting at the heart of Durham's World Heritage Site and occupied continuously since the 11th century, the Castle is now home to the students of University College, part of Durham University. Visitors are welcome to join our guided tours and special events.
