In the European apprenticeship tradition, the journeyman years (Wanderjahre, also known in German as Wanderschaft, Gesellenwanderung, and colloquially sometimes referred to as Walz lit. ' waltz ') is a time of travel for several years after completing apprenticeship as a craftsman.
Journeymen are highly valued for their expertise and are often sought after by employers and clients. One of the benefits of becoming a journeyman is the ability to work independently. Unlike apprentices, who must work under the supervision of a more experienced tradesperson, journeymen have the necessary skills and knowledge to work on their own.
