James Scott, Duke of Monmouth and Buccleuch. (1649-1685), Son of Charles II and Lucy Walter. Sitter associated with 42 portraits. The eldest of Charles II 's fourteen illegitimate children, Monmouth was the son of Lucy Walter. He fought in the Second and Third Anglo-Dutch wars gaining a considerable reputation as one of Britain's finest soldiers.

The marriage between the fourteen-year-old Monmouth and Anne, who was just twelve years old, took place on 20 April 1663: the following day, they were jointly made Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, with Monmouth also taking the titles of Earl of Dalkeith and Lord Scott of Whitchester and Eskdale.

He was married on 2 January 1693/1694 to Henrietta Hyde, daughter of Laurence Hyde, 1st Earl of Rochester.
Sir James Scott, Earl of Dalkeith KT (23 May 1674 – 14 March 1705) was the son of James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth and Anne Scott, 1st Duchess of Buccleuch. He was also the grandson of Charles II of England , Scotland and Ireland .
When James Scott was born on 14 January 1702, his father, James Scott Earl of Dalkeith, was 27 and his mother, Lady Henrietta Hyde Scott, was 26. He died on 26 February 1719, at the age of 17.
