Download CV. Michael Attenborough was educated at Westminster School and Sussex University, where he read English and was President of the University Drama Society. He graduated in 1972 and took on the post of Assistant Director at the University's Gardner Centre Theatre – now re-named the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.
Michael Attenborough will direct Jonathan Pryce as William Shakespeares King Lear running at the Almeida Theatre from the 31 August 3 November 2012, with press night 11 September. Designs are by Tom Scutt with lighting by Jon Clark and sound and music by Dan Jones .
Attenborough was born in West London. He is the son of theatre director Michael Attenborough and actress Karen Lewis, the grandson of actor-director Richard Attenborough and actress Sheila Sim, as well as great-nephew of naturalist Sir David Attenborough. He is Jewish.
Michael Attenborough is Principal Associate Director at the RSC. He began his career as Associate Director at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, 1972–74, and went from there to the Leeds Playhouse, 1974–79.
