Alexander Duff (25 April 1806, in Edinburgh – 12 February 1878, in Sidmouth), was a Christian missionary in India; where he played a large part in the development of higher education. He was a Moderator of the General Assembly and convener of the foreign missions committee of the Free Church of Scotland and a scientific liberal reformer of anglicized evangelism across the Empire.
An award-winning heirloom peony introduced in 1902, 'Lady Alexandra Duff's deep-pink buds open into large, soft-pink flowers with ruffled, lightly fringed petals. A strong grower with sturdy stems that are excellent for cutting. Great, old-fashioned peony fragrance. (Kelway, 1902) Zones 3-7. Bare roots are available only in late-fall and winter.

In 1999, she completed postgraduate qualifications in Education (the University of Wolverhampton) and in 2006, she attained an MSc in Diabetes (the University of Roehampton).
