On her application, Travers did not mention her gender. She was accepted. Charles de Gaul, who had recently been elected to head the French government, made her a General.

18 de dic. de 2003 · In 2000, aged 91, assisted by Wendy Holden she wrote her autobiography, 'Tomorrow to Be Brave: A Memoir of the Only Woman Ever to Serve in the French Foreign Legion', having waited for all the other principals in her life story to die before writing it. Travers was decorated with the Légion d'honneur, Croix de Guerre and Médaille Militaire.
Susan Travers (born 18 February 1939) is a retired British film and television actress. She is the daughter of the actress Linden Travers and a niece of Bill Travers, and cousin of actress Penelope Wilton. She played the role of Arlette Van der Valk, the detective's wife, in the series Van der Valk. Travers was married to photographer Cornel Lucas. Her daughter Charlotte Lucas is also an actress.
