  3. WILLIAM HUBBS REHNQUIST was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 1, 1924. He grew up in a politically conservative household in Shorewood, a Milwaukee suburb. When Rehnquist graduated from high school, World War II was well under way, so he joined the Army Air Corps and served as a weather observer in North Africa.
