When Otto von Nassau-Dillenburg II was born in 1305, in Siegen, Grafschaft Nassau-Siegen, Holy Roman Empire, his father, Graf Heinrich von Nassau Siegen I, was 38 and his mother, Adelheid von Heinsberg Sponheim, was 33. He married Adelheid von Vianden on 23 December 1331, in Nassau, Offenberg, Deggendorf, Bavaria, Germany.
John was born c. 1339 as the eldest son of Count Otto II of Nassau-Siegen and Countess Adelaide of Vianden. Siegen Castle, 2011. When John's father was killed in action between 6 December 1350 and 25 January 1351, John succeeded him as Count of Nassau-Siegen.
In 1292 Henry supported his cousin Adolf of Nassau in the royal election by agreeing to the pledging of Nassau property to the Archbishop of Cologne. Henry remained an ally of his cousin and in 1294, 1295 and 1297 he was commander of the army against Landgrave Albert II ‘the Degenerate’ of Thuringia . [7]
