Duke Ludwig Wilhelm Karl Norbert Theodor Johann in Bavaria (17 January 1884 – 5 November 1968) was a member of the Kingdom of Bavaria's ruling dynasty, the House of Wittelsbach. Life [ edit ] Ludwig Wilhelm was born at Schloss Tegernsee , the eldest son of Duke Karl Theodor in Bavaria and his second wife Infanta Maria Josepha of Portugal .
Ludwig Wilhelm (often called Louis) was the eldest child of Duke Maximilian Joseph in Bavaria and Princess Ludovika of Bavaria, and was the brother of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. [3] He pursued a career in the Royal Bavarian Army , becoming a major in the 1st Royal Bavarian Chevau-légers "Emperor Nicholas of Russia" and rising to the rank of General of the Cavalry by 1859.
The new Bavarian ruler and his minister Maximilian von Montgelas were well prepared for both of these problems. As regards its foreign policy, Bavaria fully sided with France in 1805. Bavaria was made a kingdom as a token of its allegiance. The French emperor Napoleon named Max Joseph king. This increase in rank gave Max greater political freedom.

Mathilde Ludovika, Duchess in Bavaria (30 September 1843 – 18 June 1925) was the fourth daughter of Maximilian, Duke in Bavaria and Princess Ludovika of Bavaria. Her mother was the youngest surviving daughter of King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria by his second wife Margravine Karoline of Baden .
