The Royal Grammar School, Guildford, commonly known as the RGS, is a selective independent day school for boys in Guildford, Surrey in England. The school dates its founding to the death of Robert Beckingham in 1509 who left provision in his will to 'make a free scole at the Towne of Guldford'; in 1512 a governing body was set up to form the school.
The school was in financial difficulty. However, after the mayor and citizens petitioned King Edward VI, in 1552 he granted income to the school which would from then be named: or simply, “The Royal Grammar School” . The present site at the top of the High Street was purchased in 1555 and the school was built on that site between 1557 and 1586.

Our curriculum in the senior school is based on the English National Curriculum with UK- based examinations (GCSE and A-Level). Years 7 - 9.
