ZERO is one of Eggman's robots and the Prototype of the E-Series of Robots, Initially being E-100 Alpha. Badniks are the enemies which Sonic the Hedgehog fights in nearly every game. Although deadly, they are actually innocent animals imprisoned by Eggman within robotic shells.
Dr. Eggman would begin his quest to build the Eggman Empire by establishing his Scrap Brain factory on South Island. During the games' events, Dr. Eggman's Badniks, including the Spikeses, got hijacked by the Deadly Six. The Spikeses appear in Tropical Coast Zone 4. In gameplay, only two of them appear in the Zone, both of whom are moving on ceilings. If the player runs below them, they will fire their spikes from their shells which can inflict damage.
