Finally select Look for another app on this PC, point to the folder where macOS is installed, check the Always use this app to open SPOTLIGHT-V100 files box and conform your selection by clicking OK button.

To do this for a specific drive add a file called .metadata_never_index to the root directory of the removable drive. You can also completely prevent spotlight indexing but I figured that was not what you were looking for. This time, when I had the drive's folder open I saw the 'newfolder.exe' and the folder (with the pictures) is grayed out (hidden).
