Henry Addington is remembered as an interlude in Pitt’s long tenure. His government negotiated the Treaty of Amiens in 1802, briefly ending the war with France, only to declare war again in 1803. After the declaration of war, Addington mobilised resources and reestablished income tax to fund the war (in a more efficient way than his predecessor).
