It is claimed he falsely stated he was a Royal Navy officer and attended the Britannia Royal Naval College, despite his application being rejected. John Beggs KC said Mr Adderley gave a false impression in terms of the South Atlantic Medal, awarded to troops in the Falklands War.

Mr Adderley, 57, is suspended, but continues to receive full pay that rises next month to £167,876, despite also facing a criminal investigation alongside force disciplinary proceedings.
