Hace 5 días · Duke of Savoy. 31 Aug.:— The Constable told the bp. of Winchester when he left for England that if his master desired to marry in France he could choose from those of the royal blood, but as for the nun he could nowise have her, meaning one of the daughters of the duke of Guise; as to the daughters of Lorraine and Vendôme they were in the hands of their fathers.

Here has been some jar between the King of Navarre, the Queen Mother, and the Duke of Guise, partly about Condé's matters, and partly about Cardinal Châtillon remaining in the Court, whom the Queen Mother would have from hence. The matter grew so far that the King was ready to forsake the Court, but now all are made friends.
Hace 4 días · The Queen Mother (by the advice of her Council) set out with the intention of seeing Condé and placing him in the position which belongs to him in the kingdom, and to build up a firm peace; but the Duke of Guise opposed her so warmly, even using menaces, that she was compelled to change her tone.—Orleans, 5 January 1562. Hace 4 días · The like letter is sent to all the Ambassadors who are at Paris. They will be lodged at Louviers. It is thought that there will be some protestation or declaration of war made before all the Ambassadors against the Queen. The Admiral and D'Andelot are sent for, and so is the Duke of Guise.— Paris, 8 July 1563. Orig., with seal.
