I read the book "True Grit" and saw the movie too, and he sort of made me think of the itinerant worker who went to work on the heroine's family farm - with tragic results. Your grandfather looks quite a guy. Fascinating photo! As best I can tell the photo was taken sometime between about 1908/9.
