Vocalist Doug Ingle was a native of San Diego, California, and he teamed with drummer Jack Pinney, bass player Greg Willis, and guitarist Danny Weis to form Iron Butterfly in 1966. The group's membership eventually solidified with Ingle joined by Ron Bushy on drums, Lee Dorman on bass, and Erik Brann on guitar.
