Johann Georg Hiedler acted as Alois' stepfather and was legally declared as the birth father many years after Georg's death. However, his presumed parentage remains unverified. A second candidate for being the father of Alois was Johann Nepomuk Hiedler, Georg's brother, who owned a farm in the nearby town of Spital, and to whom Georg sent Alois to be raised through his teen years.
